Floris Andréa
Photography has been my way of looking at the world for many years.
More recently, in the hills near Ceva in Piedmont, tending a small Barbera vineyard has become part of that same attention.
Both complement each other in the way they engage the senses — sight, taste, touch.
La Strella - Ceva
Ten years ago, Floris Andréa moved from Amsterdam to an old farmhouse, La Strella, near Ceva - Piedmont, Italy.
On the typical Langhe hilltop behind the house, he tends a vineyard, while in the former hayloft he creates his art and produces photographic portraits,
Biography in short
Floris Andréa was born in Haarlem in 1967. From the age of sixteen, photography ran like a steady red thread through his life. He briefly studied at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague and apprenticed with Govert de Roos and Paul Huf in Amsterdam. He worked from various locations, but his most striking studio was in the old fire station in De Pijp, now a popular neighborhood in Amsterdam.
His drive brought him into contact with many generous people, and as a result he exhibited in a wide variety of venues, including KunstRai in Amsterdam, Gasunie in Groningen, Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam, Ward Nasse Gallery in New York, MIA in Milan, ArtKitchen in Amsterdam, Arteria in Groningen, and many other places. He published several books and gave lectures about his work, among others at FOAM in Amsterdam. His “crossing” to Italy had a profound influence on the development of Floris’ work.
